FANATIC SKY AIR PREMIUM The Premium Inflatable Wingfoil Board

THE Fanatic Sky Air Premium is the travel version of the popular Sky Wing models – without compromising on comfort and flying feel, in a compact package!

The Sky Air is available in 3 sizes, from 1.5 to 1.5 meters, and offers incredibly stable flight. With an extra stiff carbon plate directly under the riders feet, it ensures the foils follow every impulse instantly. The shape of this board features a pronounced front rocker that ensures touchdowns don’t stop the fun.
Fanatic added all the extra features such as the bottom handle needed to get the board and kite in the water at the same time, footstrap inserts and a silicone rail edge for a clean release and quick launch.
The board is made of high quality double layers and comes with a handy wheeled backpack that can hold your board, foils, kites and a dual action pump, which you can use to inflate your board and your wing.

Double Layer Light technology is our premium construction. It features a second layer of PVC, which is welded directly to the middle layers and around the V-Drop Stitch material – the heart of every Fanatic inflatable. An additional third layer of colored rail stripes rounds off the high, durable quality with a stylish look of the cover print.
The advantages of the Double Layer Light construction compared to the standard Double Layer technology are a reduction in weight of 20-25% and an increase in stiffness of approximately 25-30%. Simply the best inflatable technology available.
The lower part of the Sky Air has an extra stiff carbon plate which includes the mounting of the track foils and the lower handle. This creates a solid support zone for a riding sensation close to that of composite boards.

With the launch of Fanatic’s latest development in Wing Foiling – the Sky Air Premium Inflatable Wing Foiling Board, Fanatic Shaper Sky Solbach and Product Manager Daniel Aeberli tell us more about this new travel pack.

You’re from Maui and design very defined shapes with precise rockers, rails and bottom contours – what does this new addition have to do with your popular shapes? sky wing that we all know for Wing Foiling?

Sky: Haha – good question! Of course, the shape of the bottom and the rails are not comparable to a composite board. But there are several things you can do to make the behavior as close as possible to the solid shapes of sky wing. We tweaked the rocker line and added many features to give the Sky Air an easy take-off and to be very stiff and responsive under your feet, while being forgiving on touch downs, which saves beginner riders to fall and restart all the time. Ultimately, the benefit of these boards is that you can fold them in half and pack your entire setup into a nice compact bag for travel – which is something composite boards can’t compete with. Of course, the iSUP material itself is super durable and perfect for beginners/intermediate riders, it keeps damage to a minimum while still providing a soft and safe surface compared to a flimsier composite board.

Sounds interesting – can you tell us more about the size and features you mentioned?

Sky: The Sky Air Premium will be available in 3 sizes at the moment; a 5’4″ with 103l, a 5’8″ with 120l, a 5’10” with 150l and we will add a smaller 5’0″ later in the year. Since I mostly tuned the outline, rocker and volume, I’ll let Dani talk about the specs, as he’s put all his years of experience producing inflatable SUPs here – and more.

Can you tell us about the features and construction of these boards?

Daniel: Of course! The team and I tested quite a few inflatable boards for foiling and our conclusion was, if we’re doing it for Fanatic, we have to do it right and not just do an iSUP with a foiling box, because our impression of simple designs with a box or rails only in the tail wasn’t exactly satisfying to say the least. Designing a really strong carbon plate that stabilizes the entire area between the foil and the front foot was a game changer in the process. We’ve combined this with our stiffest inflation technology and Sky’s latest contours, plus an added nose rocker. Still, we lacked the easy release, so we added silicone rails to reduce drag around the tail of the board. Footstrap inserts for 3 straps and, finally, the essential feature of a lower handle, complete the feeling of driving on the water and comfort on land.

You market it as a travel pack – how is the bag and what is included?

Dani: Correct, we designed a bag that works like a backpack, but also has wheels. The bag is large enough to contain your complete installation: board, foil, one or two wings, your wetsuit and the pump. The board comes with a dual action pump that has a gauge that shows pressure from 3 to 21 PSI, with two green zones, one around 6 PSI for your kite and another around 15 to 18 PSI for your board, so you don’t need to carry two different pumps. Several adapters are included, so you can use it for your Duotone wing as well as the majority of other wings available on the market. We also offer a “Wing Edition” triple action pump as an optional accessory for faster and easier inflation. This pump has dual gauges and more accurate PSI readings, especially for your kite where not over inflating is critical.
