    Foil F-one 2023 Meet the F-one team

What are the main trends in wing foils, in terms of riding styles?

We are still in the early stages of the sport, many riders are still learning or just starting to have fun freeriding. Now it is certain that the GWA wingfoil tour – plays a significant role in influencing trends, this is especially true for freestyle. On our side, we remain convinced that the ultimate goal of the wing and which will be sought by all at some point is the feeling of freedom felt in wave riding.

What is the customer profile that is generating the most demand for the product at the moment (newcomers/experienced, kite/wind riders/exclusive wingfoilers)?

According to the feedback we have received from our dealers, kitesurfers come from very diverse backgrounds. Some come from windsurfing, others from kiteboarding, some continue to practice several disciplines, others become exclusive. Only once we have exhausted the existing pool of practitioners of water sports than the true potential of the wingfoil will be revealed. We hope that the ease of use of the wing, its practical and playful side will contribute to the democratization of this sport, especially among children and women. To help the sport in this direction, we have created a program for young riders: The F-ONE Wingfoil Next Generation program.

In which section of the market do you foresee the greatest growth?

We are seeing a growing trend towards multidisciplinarity among riders, i.e. people who practice a bit of everything, who ski, paraglider, downhill bike, surf, etc. These “outdoor” lovers are a guaranteed source of new riders and our wide range of products will meet their diverse and varied needs.

How popular are and will be the land variants of this sport?

The practicality of the wing makes it adaptable to multiple board sports, we’ve seen videos of people using it for skateboarding, ice skating or even snowboarding. For now, these land-based variants seem to remain a viral buzz on social media. Only time will tell if any of these practices are truly revolutionary.

Which of your wings are selling well and why?

The Strike is undeniably our best-selling wing. The strength of the Strike V.2 lies in the fact that it is a perfect combination of performance and comfort and can therefore be perfectly suited to all skill levels: from beginner to world champion.

How many wing models are you going to offer this year?

We currently have 3 kite models for sale: the Strike V.2 (available in 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0, 5.5 m²) for freestyle and wave riding, the Strike CWC (available in 6.0, 7.0, 8.0 m²) which is our light wind wing and finally the Swing V.2 (available in 2.4, 2.8, 3.5, 4.2, 5.0, 5.5 m²), which is a light and balanced wing perfect for freeriding. In short, with only three kite models, we offer a wide and complete range of products that will satisfy everyone’s level and needs, in all conditions.

What are the main trends in wing construction, materials and design that the industry is moving towards?

The industry seems to be moving towards increasingly stiffer materials, although it sounds good on paper, a stiff and maneuverable wing can be difficult and uncomfortable to ride, especially at the high end. On the contrary, we discovered that a kite must be able to absorb this power, just like the bend of the mast or the opening of the leech in windsurfing or the depower in kitesurfing. The Strike V.2 released in January affirmed our commitment in this direction as we created an adaptive wing design.

What materials and construction techniques are you using this year? Are you going to launch innovations for 2023?

The adaptive wing design of the STRIKE V.2 turns every gust into positive energy and allows for perfect traction control. Its design adapts through a controlled deformation that allows it to maintain a high-performance profile and unprecedented stability over the entire range of use. To achieve this result, we have worked on the leading edge and modified the shape of the middle leg. Its cut is now segmented, which allows better control of its curve and its deformations. We have also improved the torsion of the wing.
Standard materials such as Dacron and Polyester are still ideal for exploring the world of Adaptive Wing Design, and both offer a wide range of design possibilities. Our experience and the feedback received on our previous designs have allowed us to better analyze the structural and reinforcement needs of a wing. The STRIKE V.2 will be even stronger and more durable.

Are there any standout graphics, artistic collaborations or professional models in your current collection?

As with our kite collection, this year we have chosen strong and elegant color combinations for our kites, with a little racing touch for the Strike V.2 and its vertical graphic lines in the center. We don’t have a pro model in the kite range yet, but all of our riders are still actively involved in the product development process.

Have you implemented new sustainable practices in your production and shipping processes?

F-ONE’s main goal is to manufacture durable products that offer the widest possible range of use. Sustainability is more of a concern than ever. As with our kites, our wings are produced in Asia, that’s where the know-how is. In the meantime, we could brag about the small but significant changes we’re making to our production, packaging and shipping processes, but we don’t see this as a marketing strategy.

How do you help retailers sell this category?

Wings are no exception in our business model, retailers, distributors and ambassadors are at the heart of it. In fact, we do not sell online for the simple reason that we strongly believe that buying flight equipment should be done through people who are really passionate about providing a real experience with the right advice that customers deserve. And this is even more true for the wings category. As it is a relatively young sport, consumers need to be educated about it even more. We are therefore trying to develop means and educational tools in this direction.
In addition to all the global sales support we provide them on a day-to-day basis, we also organize meetings, trial days and in-store internships.

Have you experienced inventory or delivery issues due to bottlenecks in the supply chain? If so, what solutions have you implemented?

Instead, try to find a company that hasn’t had a problem with stock or delivery… I think we all have. Patience is the key word, for us and for the customer. It is in these difficult times that customer service becomes crucial, we have done and are still doing our best to meet everyone’s needs as much as possible.

The STRIKE V.2 and its improved design will give you an even stronger feeling, whatever your skill level. With its unparalleled upwind capabilities, the STRIKE V.2 will increase your free flight time or help you win races. Its speed performance also allows you to jump higher and have excellent lift for landings. Its compact design offers more possibilities for tricks and more comfortable navigation.
