The wingfoil offers a refreshing new impetus to the Mondial du vent.
On Coussoules beach, all the conditions were met to see a great show. With the Tramontane, of course, an essential element for the smooth running of the event. The sun was also there to allow the many spectators seated with their feet in the water to admire the cream of the world.
For the second consecutive year, the first with an audience, the young and ambitious discipline distinguished itself during the 25th edition of the Global wind with the organization of the French leg of the GWA World Cup.
Since its appearance on the water, the wingfoil has become a favorite of former kitesurfers, windsurfers and stand-up paddlers. Accessible to all thanks to its board, its foil and its wing light, it offers great opportunities for practice. There competition is divided into two events: surf-slalom, in race format, and surf-freestyle with aerial tricks.
Third in freestyle and winner in slalom, the Frenchwoman from Hyères in the Var, Flora Artzner is enjoying her second consecutive participation in the Mondial du Vent: “The atmosphere is crazy. Everyone is smiling and happy. it’s a great opportunity to compete with and against amazing riders. It’s inspiring to be there. New tricks are created all the time, the team evolves. We are kind of the leaders. When I was a grandmother, I could say I was one of them. (laughs) )”.
Montpellier’s Galéa retains his title
To the rhythm of the latest sounds pushed to the extreme by the loudspeakers and commented on by the voice of the English announcer, the competition highlighted the stars of the wingfoil. Also the opportunity to discover the new faces of the discipline like the American Christopher McDonald (16) or Nia Suardiaz, the 15-year-old Spaniard, big winner in women’s surf-freestyle.
In addition to the two podiums of Flora Artzner, the French distinguished themselves in the men’s surf-slalom, where defending champion Titouan Galéa and Camille Bouyer fought a fierce battle for the final victory in the surf-slalom. The first city, Montpellier, finally won. And that’s the only thing that hasn’t changed.
